The Benefits of Facial Steaming

Of all the home remedies that can be done for the skin, facial steaming is one of the most low-cost and easiest methods. According to Mario Badescu Skin Care, the indulgent practice of facial steaming dates back to ancient Europe.

Facial steaming is greatly beneficial to the skin. It warms up its skin surface, making it more receptive to treatment such as masks, serums, creams, and cleansers. Facial steaming also enhances circulation and provides a relaxing experience. It increases perspiration, which is a surefire way to eliminate toxins from the skin. Lastly, steaming your face softens debris stuck inside the pores, making it easier to remove them gently. Facial steaming helps remove blackheads and prevents acne formation.

It is recommended to steam your face before applying a mask or mud pack, and after cleansing and exfoliating. However, the practice is not advisable for people with visible capillaries, skin irritations, or skin conditions like rosacea.

Facial steaming can be done in two methods, which both last for just a few convenient minutes. The first one involves applying a warm wet towel on your face. The second one requires a pot of boiled water.

To do the second method, pull your hair out of your face using a headband or hair clip. Next, wash your face gently with a cleanser, then rinse. You may also exfoliate if you wish. Next, put about 5 cups of clean water into a pot and bring it to a boil, then transfer the boiled water to a bowl. Let the water cool for about 2-3 minutes to prevent wrecking your skin with the extreme heat.

To steam your face, place the bowl on a table where you can comfortably sit and put your head with your face hovering over the water. Another option is to simply hold out the bowl with your two hands, but this is not advisable as you may burn yourself. Stay over the steam for about 5 to 10 minutes, then rinse your face.
