Plastic Surgery Disaster: Woman Left Without Nipples After Faulty Boob Job

(Photo : Christopher Furlong / Getty Images News) Plastic surgery is one of the sought after procedures worldwide.

Laura Damiani, 31, was enthusiastic of having her uneven breasts improved through surgery. However, it hit her big time when her boob job went terribly wrong. Apparently, her nipples began to rot and underwent necrosis, a type of gangrene.

Two weeks after her surgery, she began experiencing unbearable pain and the doctor needed to remove her nipple leaving her self-conscious and her relationship with her boyfriend on the rocks.

"He said the outcome was going to be fantastic and I had no reason to think otherwise. You go into it a bit blind," she says about her surgeon.

"You have this sort of rosy outlook that everything is going to be fine. You hear things occasionally but you never think it's going to be you or your family and friends. That's just the risk you take," she added. After the surgery, her breasts were healing normally but after two weeks, the pain worsened so she got a second opinion.

On her second consultation in another hospital, she was told that there was something wrong with her nipples. In fact, they told her that the condition was severe. She had developed necrosis. Necrosis takes place when living cells or tissues of the body begin to die and rot away. It happens when severe trauma was inflicted on the tissues that the oxygen supply becomes limited. It is irreversible and once it happens, there is no way to treat it unless to remove the necrotic part to avoid it from affecting other parts of the body.

Before long, Damiani found herself back in the hospital. "I'd never heard of necrosis before. I was very scared," she recalled. The doctor removed her whole areola and nipple on her left breast.

"I realized that my breasts would never be the same again and I wasn't going to have the outcome I had hoped for." Damiani became depressed and lamented on how her breasts looked like. She even cannot bear to be touched by her boyfriend.

After a while, she got back on her feet and decided to fix her damaged breasts. She underwent another operation and now, she admitted that she has surpassed depression and is enjoying life.
