Two xenomorph-laiden films are coming next year --- or are they?

While it has been recently confirmed that Neill Blomkamp's "Alien 5" is happening and will follow "Prometheus 2" storyline, fans have wondered what lies ahead for the next "Alien" film when xenomorphs will no longer be the main monsters of the upcoming Ridley Scott film.

In an interview with ScreenRant, "Prometheus 2" director Ridley Scott shared that while the script was then being written, it is clear that the sequel will not focus on the xenomorphs. He said, "The beast is done. Cooked."

"I got lucky meeting [the late H.R. Giger] all those years ago," continued Ripley Scott. "It's very hard to repeat that. I just happen to be the one who forced it through because they said it's obscene. They didn't want to do it, and I said, 'I want to do it, it's fantastic.' But after four ['Alien' movies] (he has conveniently forgotten the 'Alien v. Predator' movies), I think I wears out a little bit. There's only so much snarling you can do. I think you've got to come back with something more interesting. And I think we've found the next step. I thought the Engineers were quite a good start."

Xenomorphs first made appearance in the first ever "Aliens" film, released in 1979. The creatures are "endoparasitoid extraterrestrial species" that are more predatory than technological, compared to other "aliens." Apart from the four "Alien" movies --- 1979, 1986, 1992 and 1997, the xenomorphs have appeared in the two "Alien vs. Predator" films in 2004 and 2007. Xenomorph-like creatures also appear in the 2002 "Prometheus" film by Ridley Scott.

It is with these connections that fans wonder how Neill Blomkamp's "Alien 5" will progress, following the "Prometheus 2" plotline that will no longer have the xenomorph as its main antagonist.

In the Ridley Scott interview, he clearly points out that "Prometheus 2" will likely build on the Engineers, but not entirely declaring that xenomorphs will not be present. This means that Neill Blomkamp's "Alien 5" will still have its own titular antagonist, the xenomorphs around.

Ridley Scott's "Prometheus 2" release date is set on March 4; and Neill Blomkamp's "Alien 5" release date on March 6. It's like an "Alien" marathon year after all.
