The "Left 4 Dead" series is a cooperative first-person shooting game with survival horror elements. The game is developed by Valve Corporation and Turtle Rock Studios. With the release of "Left 4 Dead 2" last Nov. 2009, fans are eagerly awaiting the next installment by the developers.

Phil Robb, Turtle Rock's co-founder, confirmed that the studio will no longer be developing "Left 4 Dead 3."

"I think we're pretty much done with it. It's Valve's thing now. We've kind of gone off in our own direction. So I'd kinda like to see something new being done with it, and Valve always does great stuff, but it'd be cool to go back to it as just a fan and not a developer. But I doubt you'll see anything from us," Robb said.

He did not rule out the possibility of Turtle Rock collaborating once again with Valve, though, but asserted that it's highly unlikely.

Turtle Rock had been busy developing their recently launched 4v1 shooter game named "Evolve." Robb noted that "Left 4 Dead" "proved out the theory for 'Evolve'" with its 4v1 element where a player and three friends go toe-to-toe with a Tank. Valve still has not confirmed whether they will be reviving "L4D3," though.

This week, at the Game Developer Conference (GDC) 2015, Valve showed off its Steam VR and the next generation of Steam Machines. Furthermore, the corporation announced the successor to its original Source engine. Source 2 engine has been made available to developers for free. It will have various new tools, APIs and functions which the developer hopes will usher in new video games and create new experiences in gameplay.

It has not been announced whether Valve will create a game that supports the Source 2 engine. However, there have been speculations that "Left 4 Dead 3" will be run with Source 2 along with "Half-Life 3" or "Portal 3." No launch date has been confirmed by Valve.
