A Mexican wrestling star dies in the ring during a match with veteran wrestler, Ray Mysterio Jr. (Oscar Gutierrez). Pedro Aguayo Ramirez, who's known as Hijo del Perro Aguayo, died on Saturday at around 1:30 am  after receiving a fatal blow and being kicked by Gutierrez in a match in Tijuana, Mexico.

Aguayo suddenly went limp on the ropes after a flying kick from Gutierrez during their match on Friday night. However, his companions did not notice anything wrong and the match continued for about 2 minutes as he laid motionless in the ring.

His fellow participants and the referee realized that Aguayo was seriously injured and immediately called the medics to attend to him. He was rushed to a nearby hospital about one block away from the auditorium but due to his grave condition, he succumbed to his injuries at 1:30 am, California state prosecutor's office spokesman Raul Gutierrez said.

Based on the autopsy, the cause of death was trauma to the neck and a cervical fracture. They are now conducting an investigation to rule out possible manslaughter in the unfortunate event.

According to commission President Juan Carlos Pelayo, even though the match continued while Aguayo hung listless on the ropes, the people moved abruptly upon realizing his condition. He also defended the doctor who was supposed to be in the ring side because he was attending to another injured wrestler. However, paramedics came to his aid with a doctor from the audience to assess his condition and brought him immediately to the hospital.

"The reaction for medical attention was quick, in my opinion," Pelayo said at a news conference Saturday as reported by ESPN Sports.

"I have no words for this terrible news. My sincerest condolences for the Aguayo Ramirez family.," Joaquin Roldan, director of the AAA wrestling federation, said through his Twitter account.

The 35-year old wrestler is the son of legendary and retired wrestler, Pedro 'Perro' Aguayo, who is also a member of the Aztec lucha hall of fame.

His family has released their statement following the untimely death of Aguayo, "We, as relatives of Pedro, want to thank all of you for the affection and respect you have shown for Pedro, and you will understand that we are in no condition to comment with respect to the death of Pedro," Aguayo's mother, Luz Ramirez, said in a statement to the Associated Press as reported in Slam Sports.

Ray Mysterio Jr., on the other hand, has been receiving death threats due to the passing of Aguayo, according to Wrestlingheadlines.com.
