Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) video games "Dota 2" and "League of Legends" ("LoL") are leading the PC market into soaring heights and will continue to grow this year.

"MOBA titles have performed exceptionally well, recording immense growth while also helping to legitimize the F2P model. Much of MOBA's growth in 2014 was due to the continued rise of market leaders League of Legends and Dota 2, but EEDAR believes that many future entrants, such as Heroes of the Storm and Infinite Crisis) will continue to broaden the audience rather than cannibalize users," EEDAR reported.

MOBAs are dominating the PC gaming market and, in total, the games have gained $406 million in revenue in North America last year. Two of the top games in the industry, "Dota 2" and "League of Legends," has caused a large portion of the success of video games and will continue to expand the market.

There have been criticisms that, with plenty of MOBAs in the market today, the genre may have become over-saturated. However, results showed that these video games will continue to grow and attract new players.

The revenue generated by MOBAs in North America in 2014 represented a growth of approximately $150 million from 2013. Furthermore, EEDAR's report stated that another $100 million could be added this year. Surprisingly, profits from costumes and skins constitute 36 percent of revenue; not from characters.

In a poll created by Debate.org on whether "Dota 2" is better than "League of Legends," 69 percent of those who answered the survey agreed that Valve's MOBA video game is better than Riot Games' game.

"Dota 2 is far better game to play competitively. There are several reasons to it. 1) Dota 2 offers much more variety and strategic game play... 2) Tactical plays are much more important in Dota 2, since terrain is much more complex... 3) Mistakes are more punishable in Dota 2," Rosalind Fraser commented.
