“Outlander” Season 1 finale is near, and Tobias Menzies, who plays the role of the ruthless Black Jack Randall, has hinted that it will be “graphic.” According to him, the first season’s ending scenes will feature “some of the darkest stuff” that author Diana Gabaldon had written.
He even joked during the 2015 PaleyFest that he would not have taken the part if he had any idea of what he was supposed to do, according to E! Online. “We are pretty sure this is going to be brutal,” he said.
Episode 9 featured the show’s highly controversial and most talked-about scene. As a form of punishment for not following his instructions, Jamie Fraser, played by Sam Heughan, spanked his wife Claire Randall, played by Caitriona Balfe.
When the show returns with its 10th episode, which has been titled “Pricking of My Thumbs,” Jamie will get to meet the Duke of Sandringham, which will be played by Simon Callow. Although the Duke has been referenced several times within the show, it is only this Saturday that the character finally makes a debut appearance.
The Duke was first introduced into the storyline in the show’s pilot episode, as reported by Hypable. Claire overheard Frank and Reverend Wakefield discussing the said Duke’s supposed influence and power. They gathered that Sandringham was the protector of Black Jack Randall – which was why Black Jack managed to get away with his atrocities. After all, the Duke did not only have power and influence in the Highlands, but in London as well.
While held captive by Randall, she attempted to use this trivia to her advantage. She mentions the name of the Duke of Sandringham, insinuating that she had previously worked for him. True enough, it got Black Jack’s attention.
Furthermore, as seen in the promo video, Claire and Geillis come across a baby in the woods. Geillis then sees this as the perfect time to explain to Claire the dangers that are usually associated with a changeling.
