Despite being in limbo for several years, fans still await confirmation on the "Half Life 3" release date.
Valve has always been clear about the status of the highly-anticipated 3rd installment- it is not being developed as of the moment. According to a report from Motoring Crunch, Valve co-founder Gabe Newell released a statement about the game's fate to address all rumors once and for all.
"Gabe simply said that Half Life 3 is not in production at the moment and fans shouldn't expect it to come anytime soon. Of course, Gabe could either be cooling down the hype or telling the truth," the article read.
"Either way, there is a positive that can be taken from Gabe's words and that is he didn't deny Half Life 3's coming at all. No matter how the outcome of E3 will be like, Half Life 3's coming remain to be inevitable."
Despite Gabe Newell directly saying that a Half Life 3 release date is not in any way confirmed, fans still continue to speculate on the fate of the highly awaited third installment.
Fans just can't fathom how Valve can leave fans hanging like that. Avid gamers would often comment that they just want a decent ending to Half Life 2.
Gaming forums abound with fan theories as to why Valve has not yet explored the opportunity to make the new title.
As Reddit user camycamera shared in a subreddit page, "I suspect Valve have not released any details of the game yet specifically for this reason; so they don't build up way too much hype and fail to meet people's expectations. They want to keep it under wraps, make it the best they can make it to be, and then show it off to the public."
"You don't want to pull a Peter Molyneux and promise features that weren't even in the game yet during development or the dev team didn't even know that what Peter Molyneux was saying was going to be in the game or not. So anyway, my point is, the only hype there is is for the announcement. There is no 'real' hype for the actual game, yet."
