"The Legend of Zelda" TV series is reportedly being developed by video streaming site Netflix.

"The video streaming service is in the early stages of developing a live action series based on 'Zelda,' about an ordinary boy named Link who must rescue a princess named Zelda and save a fantasy world called Hyrule," a source told The Wall Street Journal.

Netflix is purportedly working closely with Nintendo for "The Legend of Zelda" TV series. Furthermore, the video game publishing company is highly-protective of its intellectual property and has only allowed few adaptations over the years. The Wall Street Journal commented it is possible that the project may not even become a reality.

"As it seeks writers to work on the show, Netflix is describing it as 'Game of Thrones' for a family audience," the source added.

Tech Times wrote about the seven essential things that "The Legend of Zelda" TV series must have. Just like Jon Snow's Longclaw, Link's Master Sword and primary means of defeating evil must make an appearance in the show. Along with the Master Sword, Link's loyal steed, Epona, should accompany him across Hyrule.

Moreoever, Link should be depicted with his signature garb, the green tunic and hat. Sheik, Zelda's ninja-like alter-ego, would make the princess much more than a damsel in distress and would fit perfectly with the series' "GoT"-esque feel.

Link's journey along the different races and regions of Hyrule has allowed him to meet new cultures and characters. It would be an important aspect for Netflix to create the story by bringing in various characters from each race.

Ganondorf is one villain that the show must have. With his political maneuvering, this big bad guy seemed like an obvious choice. Lastly, Link's ability to jump forward or backward in time will make for an epic TV series for the Nintendo game.
