The more you look at Charlie Hunnam, the more you think of his refusal to join "50 Shades" as Christian Grey as a wasted opportunity.

But, there's more to Charlie than just his smoldering good looks.  In a recent interview, the "Sons of Anarchy" star shared that he was interested in doing "50 Shades," but he knew it won't work for him.

"I was going to finish playing a psychopath who'd just lost his wife [in Sons of Anarchy], and five days later I'd be on set playing Christian Grey," Charlie told Men's Health.

"I was like, 'This is going to be a f**king disaster. It was the opposite of how I've tried to ground my career, not stretch myself too thin, and always do my homework."

While some consider it a loss, Charlie proves that his acting prowess is not limited to just being an eye candy on screen.  His latest project with actor Tom Hiddleston and director Guillermo del Toro could showcase his true potential.

"Hunnam plays against type in 'Crimson Peak,' less the hunky heartthrob he's normally known for, and more of a hopeless romantic," Digital Trends reported.

"He's known and loved Edith (Mia Wasikowska) for most of his life, but he's unable to win her over when Thomas Sharpe (Hiddleston) enters the picture and lures her to Allerdale. McMichael's love and concern for Edith eventually puts him on a collision course with the Sharpe family's horror house."

Apart from "Crimson Peak," the hot stud is set to appear in a summer release called "Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur," and in "The Lost City of Z," a must-watch movie co-starring Brad Pitt and Robert Pattinson.

As for another TV show, Hunnam has yet to confirm any new projects for the small screen.  He did, however, share a lot of details about his work in SOA in a recent interview published on Cinema Blend.

"I pretty much wore nothing but plaid shirts for the last seven years, and then as soon as I finished, I just felt compelled [to] have a massive spring cleaning," he shared.

"I just went through and got rid of everything. I put everything I had into that show. I lived it as much as I could. I never got in a car the whole seven years. I was only on my bike and rolling around with a bunch of real bikers and occasionally acting like a maniac."

"But saying good-bye to the character was a motherfucker. As stupid as it sounds, it really felt like a genuine bereavement, because he was this guy that I loved and hung out with constantly for seven years."

With all the great projects lined up, it certainly looks like Charlie Hunnam's decision to say no to "50 Shades" wasn't a bad idea afterall.
