The "Injustice 2" release date may happen together with the upcoming "Batman V Superman" film.

"There is zero doubt a follow-up to this highly successful game is coming, but at this point we have no idea when," Attack of the Fanboy reported. "However, March or April 2016 makes all the sense in the world for the release of 'Injustice 2.'"

"Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" is slated for release next year, on Mar. 25, 2016. The film is not only introducing Superman and Batman, but it is opening up the DC Cinematic Universe with the appearances of Wonder Woman, Aquaman and even rumored character, Cyborg.

There are a lot of speculations on the "Injustice 2" release date. Ed Boon, Creative Director for NetherRealm Studios, confirmed the sequel's development in a tweet last April. Boon is notorious for teasing fans through his Twitter account.

The creative director hinted that they might be shipping a game in Apr. 2016. After stating that the Apr. 2015 release of "Mortal Kombat X" has kept him busy, he responded to the official Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) Twitter account by implying that he might be able to attend next year's event unless they release another game around the same time.

"@Official_AIAS @noobde :( Hope you can make it next year! EB: Absolutely! ......unless we ship a game in April 2016 ;)" Ed Boon tweeted.

With the upcoming release of "Batman V Superman" in Mar. 25, 2016, it would make sense for "Injustice 2" to be published around March or April of next year. There might even be downloadable costumes from "Dawn of Justice" and the forthcoming "Suicide Squad."

Den of Geek has confirmed that Doomsday will make an appearance in "Batman V Superman." There are rumors that General Zod's corpse will become the supervillain through Lex Luthor's experimentation and might be portrayed by Michael Shannon.
