When Charlie Hunnam turned down his "50 Shades" role, a lot were surprised about his decision given that he was already introduced to star as Christian Grey.

In previous reports, Charlie admitted that he really wanted "50 Shades," but his commitment to doing "Sons of Anarchy" hindered him from giving his 100% to the steamy novel to movie flick.

Despite Charlie Hunnam previously saying that busy schedules hindered him from doing "50 Shades," rumors are still spreading that that may not be the real cause of his sudden exit from the project. "50 Shades" screenwriter Kelly Marcel recently dished on the reason why Charlie dropped the role.

"I know that Charlie had a lot of notes," she told Bret Easton Ellis's podcast.

"I know that he felt that the character of Christian wasn't there for him in the way that he needed him to be. ... Charlie is a screenwriter, I think he's written a vampire or Van Helsing script, or something like that. ... He said he was so sad to leave the project, because he had really, really bonded with Sam, and really liked Sam a lot."

Not all is lost for Charlie Hunnam even after he left "50 Shades." And while fans are still hoping he would change his mind and steal the role back from Jamie Dornan in the second movie, that won't be happening.

Now that he has a big project with Tom Hiddleston coming soon, fans are equally excited to see him take on a different role- the kind who doesn't ride on motorcycles and operates robots.

"It's a classic Gothic romance set against a backdrop of this very rural house in the middle of nowhere," Charlie spoke of his latest movie, "Crimson Peak" with Details.

"Everybody did a great job, Jessica [Chastain] absolutely killed it, she's wonderful in the film. I think it's one of Guillermo's best films, if not maybe his best film. I'm actually not really in it that much, it's really Mia Wasikowska, Jessica, and Tom Hiddleston's film, and when I'm in it, it's significant, but I really just did it because I love Guillermo and wanted to work with him again."

"If it had been anybody else, I probably wouldn't have taken the role. I had to turn down a lot other stuff to be free to do that. People were like, 'What the f--k are you doing?' but I'm doing exactly what I damn well please. That's my answer," he continued.

Apart from "Crimson Peak," the hot stud is set to appear in a summer release called "Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur," and in "The Lost City of Z," a must-watch movie co-starring Brad Pitt and Robert Pattinson.
