“Pirates of the Caribbean 5” just might be the last of the pirate-centered franchise that Johnny Depp is going to make, according to rumors. This might be a huge problem for Disney Studios.

Considering that the franchise is still very bankable, Movie Pilot has stated that Disney might be struggling to figure out which particular actor will take Depp’s place, should he decide that he no longer wants to get involved.

“Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales” is still in its production stages as of the moment, but the rumor mill is already abuzz with speculations about the sixth installment. Hiring a new actor for the role will only mean that the studio will have to figure out something new for the lead role.

Before Depp was cast, though, it must be noted that Jim Carrey was also one of the actors whom the studio had to choose from. That said, there is a huge chance that – once the rumors that Depp is leaving the franchise after “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” turn out to be true – he could be called in for the role.

Dan Stevens of “Downton Abbey” is also a good choice, considering that he is very classically handsome – as compared to the rugged kind of handsome that Depp depicts in the movie.

Robert Downey, Jr. could also be a good choice, especially since audiences have a tendency to get hooked to his projects because of his innate charisma. However, it must be noted that his name is already attached to one of today’s biggest superhero franchises. This could only point out that there is absolutely no need for him to take over Depp in that respect.

There are also rumors that the film following “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” could feature a female lead. Zoe Saldana is among the front runners in this race, especially after she has already established a strong presence in Hollywood after “Colombiana,” and “Guardians of the Galaxy.”
