After almost four decades, Maverick returns with jets on the horizon, but this time "Top Gun 2" will be a Scifi movie. Main cast member Tom Cruise reveals sequel details, including returning as the iconic character and how CGI isn't included.
The latest news revealed the Hollywood A-list star Tom Cruise dishing out sequel details of the highly anticipated "Top Gun." In a report by Reuters, the original "Top Gun" cast member said that while "Top Gun 2" is in development, there are some things he wants to remain the same---this being the action behind making the movie.
"It would have to be practical. I don't want any CGI jets. I want to shoot it like how we shot the first one," said the original cast member.
"If I can figure it out, if all of us can figure it out, it'd be fun to do, I'd like to fly those jets again, but we got to do all the jets practical, no CGI on the jets... I'm saying right now no CGI on the jets. If we can figure all that out, and the Department of Defense will allow us to do it, that would be fun," said the actor in a report by ExtraTV.
Early reports about "Top Gun 2" development have already revealed the original cast member's return to the sequel. And while Tom Cruise will definitely return as Maverick, changes to the sequel's plot will be more than what Maverick faced during the '80s.
In a report by Collider, Skydance's David Ellison shared more than cast news for "Top Gun 2" movie. "It is very much a world we live in today where it's drone technology," said the CEO.
"And fifth generation fighters are really what the United States Navy is calling the last man-made fighter that we're actually going to produce so it's really exploring the end of an era of dogfighting and fighter pilots and what that culture is today are all fun things that we're gonna get to dive into in this movie," Ellison explained.
