"Zelda" Wii U may be called "The Legend of Zelda" NX.

It was previously reported that the "Zelda" Wii U release date has been moved once again. It may not be released next year as per Nintendo's financial report. Although it was neither confirmed nor denied that "The Legend of Zelda" Wii U has been delayed, there are speculations that the game is pushed into a 2017 release or later.

It was also rumored that producer Eiji Aonuma and his team may be planning to publish it for Nintendo NX instead of Wii U. According to GamesRadar, "The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess" was originally exclusive to GameCube but ended up with a Wii launch title.

Nintendo's NX is deemed as its new "dedicated game platform." More details will be revealed next year. The publication suggested that "Zelda" Wii U would make for an attractive launch title for the console.

"We confirmed that a 'Zelda' game, a new 'Zelda' experience is in development for the Wii U and we have our team hard at work on that," Nintendo of America executive vice president of sales and marketing Scott Moffitt told iDigitalTimes. "We want that to be the best Zelda experience. Fans have been waiting for and deserve a game when it's ready, when it's fully featured and when it can live up to what we would like to deliver."

Nintendo previously announced that "The Legend of Zelda" Wii U was no longer slated for a 2015 release. The video game company admitted that they want to make it the best game that it can possibly be.

Eiji Aonuma, "Legend of Zelda" producer, also said that a Wii U version of the game is not their top priority for them as of the moment. The team reportedly discovered a lot of new possibilities for the game which, in turn, forced them to reconsider their timeline and priorities.
