Fans are hanging on to every update about the upcoming "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3, but the delayed release date announcement has everyone panicking about the possibility of cancellation.

Previous reports revealed that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 release date will be sometime after "Tokyo Ghoul: Jack" but updates on the actual date has yet to be announced and fans are getting worried.

According to When-will, "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 spin-off series "'Tokyo Ghoul: Jack' revolves around two characters from the main series, namely Kishou Arima and Taishi Fura. The two met each other when they got together to investigate the death of Taishi's friend by the hands of a ghoul. Eventually, Taishi follows into Arima's footsteps and joins the Commission of Counter Ghoul, which is the federal agency whose main goal is to investigate ghoul related crimes."

The spin-off to "Tokyo Ghoul" was initially set for a June release date but no news so far and even so for the much-awaited season 3. The same report speculated "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 release date to be sometime during this year's summer, but then again no confirmation from the showrunners.

With the little news available for season 3 especially certainty on the release date, "Tokyo Ghoul" fans are now quite worried that with all the spin-off talks, "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 might be cancelled. While this, of course, remains as one of the top rumors for the manga series, there's still hope that cancellation will not befall season 3.

A report by Yibada pointed out the possible reason behind what could be a cancelled season 3 for "Tokyo Ghoul" when a commenter said, "Honestly, there would be a lot of issues in doing a third season considering how far the second season deviated from the manga. Unless the third season is another anime-original piece."

"The decisions to skip out on entire story arcs and derail the development of several characters would make adapting 'Tokyo Ghoul: Re' very difficult," it added.
