"Pokken Tournament" Wii U has been confirmed for a global release during spring next year.

VideoGamer.com reported that Bandai Namco's arcade fighting game will be released for their home console worldwide in 2016. The game, which looks similar to "Tekken" but with "Pokémon" characters, strives to combine the classic fighting game elements with a genuine "Pokémon" experience.

The announcement for "Pokken Tournament" Wii U was made during this year's Pokemon World Championships, which took place in Boston. A trailer was also released with visuals taken from the arcade version of the game.

A new character was announced at the last part of the "Pokken Tournament" Wii U trailer. Deemed as a new Pokémon challenger, Pikachu Libre seems like a pro-wrestler Pikachu with its iconic electric powers.

According to Geek Snack, a new image with the English version of the names of some of the playable "Pokken Tournament" Wii U characters and their special moves has been revealed. Some new screenshots have also been featured in the game's official website.

Among the confirmed Battle Pokémon are Lucario, with his burst attack Aura Blast, Pikachu with Volt Shock Fist, Machamp with Dynamic Fury, Gardevoir with Fairy Tempest, Weavile with Sonic Slash, Suicune with True Sheer Cold, Charizard with Searing Blaze and Gengar with Shadow Drop.

The Battle Pokémon was also featured in the "Pokken Tournament" Wii U trailer. Emolga, Snivy, Frogadier, Fennekin, Lapras and Eevee are some of the Support Pokémon announced. Other assist characters are Whimsicott and Jirachi.

Screenshots of the arcade game showcased some matches as well as its playable characters. Pikachu, Charizard, Gardevoir, Weavil and Gengar were featured in the images.

"Pokken Tournament" is an arcade game by Bandai Namco initially released in Japan last Jul. 16, 2015. An international Wii U release has been planned for the second quarter of 2016. "Tekken" characters will not be featured in the game.
