"Hannibal" season 4 may have been cancelled, but TV show star Mads Mikkelsen has found another story to haunt as he joins "Doctor Strange" cast as the next biggest villain of all time.

Latest updates on the highly anticipated Benedict Cumberbatch film revealed that "Hannibal" star Mad Mikkelsen is almost on-board the latest superhero project, casted as another villain.

A report by Movie Pilot revealed that "Doctor Strange" has indeed a worthy nemesis in "Hannibal" star Mads Mikkelsen. Although it has yet to be officially announced, the 49-year-old actor is the favorite among those set to take on Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange.

"Mads Mikkelsen will be signed to play another villain in the film. However, the villain's name is yet to be declared," the report pointed out.

It isn't the first time that Mikkelsen has been approached by Marvel. According to the same report, "the renowned franchise approached him for the one of the roles in Thor, but he chose to do 'Hannibal'."

Chiwetel Ejiofor has already joined the cast of "Doctor Strange" as the villain Baron Karl Mordo, with other stellar cast members that include Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One. There are many other villains that Mikkelsen could portray, and this has yet to be officially revealed once the "Hannibal" actor signs on into "Doctor Strange."

Meanwhile, before the titular role of "Doctor Strange" was linked to "Sherlock" superstar Benedict Cumberbatch, it was initially offered to Hollywood star Joaquin Phoenix. In a recent interview with Timeout, Phoenix revealed why he opted out from being casted as the next Marvel lead character in "Doctor Strange."

"Sure. When I was younger, I was probably a bit of a snob about that," Phoenix said.

"But they've gotten better. I've flirted with several of those films, having meetings and getting close, but ultimately it never felt like they'd really be fulfilling. There were too many requirements that went against my instincts for character. I've been spoiled. I've never had to make those compromises."

The entire cast of "Doctor Strange" arrives next year in November.
