The "No Man's Sky" release date may have been delayed because of Sony's Project Morpheus.

Movie Pilot reported that the upcoming space exploration game would be the perfect launch title for Sony's virtual reality headset. There are predictions that VR gadgets would have a difficult time in 2016, when it is expected to be available.

Project Morpheus, Oculus Rift, Hololens and HTC Vive are all competing for the ultimate virtual reality experience. Microsoft has showed off "Minecraft" with Hololens but Sony has not demonstrated its VR headset with any game yet.

"Therefore, the likes of Sony [is] going to need something to grab our attention with, and what better way would there be to sell Project Morpheus than have 'No Man's Sky' as your launch title?" the website wrote.

It is highly likely that the "No Man's Sky" release date is being delayed in order for it to be developed for PS4 and PC, complete with Project Morpheus support. If the game would only be available for VR gaming through Sony, this could revive the popularity and sales for both "No Man's Sky" and the headset.

If the game would be made the launch title for Sony's Project Morpheus, the "No Man's Sky" release date could be delayed until next year. However, it is possible that Hello Games could make the game available this year for PS4 and PC before releasing it for virtual reality.

Last year, Sean Murray was asked when the "No Man's Sky" release date would be. The game is not an easy project to rush. The high anticipation surrounding it meant that its every aspect had to be firmly established.

"We are this super-small team, and we are making this ridiculously ambitious game, and all we are going to do in telling people when it is going to come out, probably, is disappoint them," he replied.
