New reports claim that due to internal conflicts, the release date for "How to Train Your Dragon 3" has been moved to 2018.
Originally, the third and final instalment has been slated for a 2016 release.
"The film was originally scheduled to be released in 2016, however, behind-the-scenes trouble for DreamWorks Animation, which included company restructuring and massive lay-offs, led to its eventual delay," Ecumenical News reported.
This early, plot speculations have already made their rounds on the interwebs. Although nothing specific has been laid out yet, director Dean DeBlois has already shared the overall theme and concept for the new movie.
"I'm also playing with the idea of what happened to the dragons and why they are no more, as suggested by Cressida Cowell's books," director Dean DeBlois told Collider.
"So the whole mystery of where did they go? Did they come back? What transpired? I think it's all compelling stuff and it's definitely a story that's gonna have a lot more Toothless emphasis in it. We continue to get more insight into the dragon world and shed light on their intelligence and all the aspects that we've been slowly cooking over the last two films."
"DeBlois revealed that he was also interested in exploring the mythology of dragons," Ecumenical News added.
"The upcoming movie also aims to provide insight into the world of dragons, including their intelligence and other characteristics that have been initially explored in the first two movies. The story may tackle what happened to the dragons, where they went and whether they will come back."
It was previously reported that there might be a fourth flick in development, but Director Dean DeBlois just recently revealed that the third instalment will be the last and will put the epic franchise to an end.
