"Wayward Pines" season 2 renewal seems to drift further and further away. Although its executive producer is rumored to be currently in negotiations with the franchise's author, there has been no confirmatory news about the show's second season so far.
It was previously reported that executive producer M. Night Shyamalan is in talks with author Blake Crouch regarding "Wayward Pines" season 2 renewal. Apparently, it would depend on whether or not there are any more stories to tell. Once they do agree on what the second season's plot could be, they just might decide to push through with "Wayward Pines" season 2 renewal.
At present, though, both Shyamalan and Crouch are reportedly already happy to walk away from the project - feeling that they have done the series a lot of a justice with the ending that they gave it. Still, due to public demand, there is still a chance that a second season will be given the go signal. However, everything will have to rely on the network's decision.
Chad Hodge, the show's developer and co-executive producer has revealed, according to Cross Map, that there was actually no plan to make the "Wayward Pines" franchise into a TV series. Apparently, it was only supposed to be a mini-series with a hanging ending - one that was initially meant to not hint at a possibility for a second season.
The ending that the show's previous season had pointed out that everything had already gone in its full circle, having a finale episode that was pretty similar with the pilot.
However, new rumors have suggested that FOX just might decide to green-light "Wayward Pines" season 2 renewal. Dana Walden, the CEO of FOX Entertainment Group was pretty open to the option of renewing the show.
"It is another mini-series event if Blake is prepared to lay that mythology further into the book series," she said. "They have just started having conversations about it. We are pleased with the performance of the show. We are interested in hearing in what they come to us with!"
