Recent One Direction 2015 news confirmed the band's outstanding performance at the 2015 AMAs. They were also named as the Artist of the Year.

HollywoodLife.com reported that One Direction rocked the 2015 American Music Awards last Sunday with their performance of their single, "Perfect." The publication commented that their voices were the focus of the performance with the simple stage background and bare microphones.

The quartet rocked the 2015 AMAs with their performance of the controversial song which was assumed to be about Harry Styles' ex-girlfriend, Taylor Swift. Furthermore, the "Shake It Off" pop star was a no-show at the event.

NZHerald.co.nz reported that Taylor Swift was spotted at Auckland Airport in New Zealand. It was believed that the pop star is taking a well-earned break.

Meanwhile, the band and Taylor Swift, along with Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Meghan Trainor, The Weeknd, Maroon 5 and Luke Bryan, vied for the Artist of the Year award.

One Direction was named as the Artist of the Year, just ahead of their upcoming hiatus. They also took home the Favorite Duo or Group for Pop/Rock award.

"Wow, this is absolutely incredible, to win two years in a row," Louis Tomlinson said. "It's a testament to how incredible our fans are so thank you, thank you, thank you."

"We can't believe we get to win awards like this and we are obviously going on a little break now to spend a little time with our families obviously we want to thank our families," Liam Payne added.

This is the third time that One Direction has been named as the Best Pop/Rock Group award since 2013. "We won't be able to do it without our fans," Niall Horan admitted.

"To everyone who worked with us and has supported us for the last five years, thank you all, you are brilliant to work with and we love you all," Harry Styles said. "And to the fans, thank you."
