The "Hunter X Hunter" series has such a huge fanbase, but the return of this series is still up in the air. The last episode 148 was telecast on Sep. 23, 2014 and it has been more than a year the hiatus continues.

Anime News Network reported that due to the indefinite hiatus, Japanese bookstores stopped distributing the manga as they did not like where the series was heading.

The creator Yoshihiro Togashi was suffering from lower back pain issues and the screening of the episodes were not satisfactory. The website stated that it was supposed to be a two week long medical leave, however since Togashi's health has not recovered fully, the screening of this series is stalled for an indefinite period.

The bookstores have not given a very good response to the 32 volumes of the "Hunter x Hunter" manga series which was selling for 7,000 yen, or about $60. As per the report on Kpopstarz, The bookstores have declared the series to be ''dead'' or ''finished'' which was vehemently opposed by the Japanese fans. This shows that there are still some fans of this manga who are waiting for the return of this ''Hunter X Hunter" manga.

After chapter 349, no new volume of the book is released owing the poor health of the creator Togashi. Even though the fans are waiting for the series to return, Anime News Network did not release any define date for the return of the series.

Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine announced way back in August 2014 "The manga will not return in the magazine's 41st issue as originally scheduled, since Togashi has not fully recovered medically. A return date was not announced."

Now that 2016 has arrived, there have been no new announcement about the series resuming its telecast or the book series coming on the shelves again.
