''Pacific Rim'' which was an American science fiction monster film directed by Guillermo Del Toro's sequel ''Maelstrom'' might be postponed or stalled for an indefinite period. This is as per the reports of Cinema blend. The original film was released in 2013.

As per the information on Latin Post, Del Toro is keeping his lips sealed on what's happening in "Pacific Rim: Maelstrom," but he confirmed some of the stars who will make a comeback in the second installment. The original film starred starring Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, and Ron Perlman.

Del Toro said, "I think that everybody or most everybody that survived is back. The rest we killed. We killed half the cast," he stated according to Cinema Blend.''

Even though the speculations are on, the audiences can expect the following characters back: Heroes Raleigh Becket (Charlie Hunnam) and Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi), Dr. Newton Geiszler (Charlie Day), Gottlieb (Burn Gorman) and Ron Perlman's Hannibal Chau.

Latin Post also reported that Idris Elba is not returning as it was seen in the first film that he died in a heroic fashion.

The original film scooped up a whopping $411 million worldwide. Only time will tell what is in store for the sequel? Maelstorm was scheduled to be released on Aug 4, 2017.

Out of the $411 million, the film managed to make only $101 million in the US Box office. The film critics are apprehensive that with such numbers, whether the producers will fall flat on the box office with the sequel?
The onus is pretty much on Guillermo Del Toro to make such a block buster that all these speculations can lick dust.
As per the reports on Crossmap, Since Guillermo Del Toro named ''Pacific Rim 2'' as Maelstorm, it sounds like a sequel 3 also will be made in the future.

There are speculations whether Pacific Rim 3 will involve Godzilla? However Screen Rant pointed out, '' No, There's Not Going to be a 'Godzilla' and 'Pacific Rim' Crossover'."
