There are rumors that George R.R. Martin's "Winds of Winter" release date may be canceled.

Movie News Guide speculated that the highly-anticipated book 6 of Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series may not be published at all. However, the acclaimed fantasy author did give an update on his Live Journal about the book's status.

"THE WINDS OF WINTER is not finished," Martin announced.

"Nor is it likely to be finished tomorrow, or next week. Yes, there's a lot written. Hundreds of pages. Dozens of chapters [sic]. But there's also a lot still left to write. I am months away still... and that's if the writing goes well."

"Chapters still to write, of course... but also rewriting. I always do a lot of rewriting, sometimes just polishing, sometimes pretty major restructures."

It was previously reported that George R.R. Martin's "Winds of Winter" release date will not happen in time for "Game of Thrones" season 6. There have been a lot of speculations on the publishing date of George R.R. Martin's book 6 for his fantasy series, "A Song of Ice and Fire."

Rumors were fueled even further with the news of "Game of Thrones" season 6 airing this April.

However, fans were very supportive of the dear author and understood that writing is a process. "I can wait," one fan commented. "But thanks for the update anyways."

"Just keep on truckin'," another wrote. "The fact that you're working hard is enough to sate me."

Martin thanked fans for their understanding in another Live Journal update. "The outpouring of support in response to my post on THE WINDS OF WINTER has been astonishing," he wrote.

"Thank you all, so very much... I cannot tell you how much I appreciate all the kind words and good wishes."

Uproxx reported that fans were "pretty cool with the possibility of waiting another nine to twelve months (hopefully?) for the next book."
