Fans are looking forward to the release date of "Avatar 2," which is the second installment of the epic science fiction movie franchise in 2009 and director James Cameron asked the film's followers to give him more time to make the sequel, according to MNG.

The hit movie "Avatar" wants to be revived by Cameron and the director spilled new details on the highly anticipated sequel. The original film made $2.8 billion dollars in box office sales globally and Cameron said that they are planning to make three more installments.

"Avatar 2" is slated for release in Dec. 2017, while "Avatar 3" is scheduled to hit the big screen by 2018 and finally "Avatar 4" in 2019. Rumors have it that Cameron will be shooting all three films straight through, because they would like to maintain the film's aesthetic and lengthy meta-narrative.

The plots for the next three films have been kept under wraps but James Cameron hinted that fans could look forward to meeting new species in the upcoming sequels. The director admits that it is not an easy task and that the sequel is a continuous challenge for him, revealed the Lawyer Herald.

"It's been about a two-year task. (We've finished) all the creatures and the landscapes, and the new worlds within the world of Pandora that you see," said Cameron in an interview. "Obviously, expectations are going to be very high on these films, especially on 'Avatar 2,' to make sure it wasn't just some big fluke the first time."

Most of the main characters are to return and reprise their roles, including Sigourney Weaver as Dr. Augustine and Stephen Lang as Colonel Miles Quatrich. Both of them died in the original film, to which the director added that science fiction characters don't really die.

The second installment is also rumored to have a more emotional approach, compared to the most action-packed original, which was confirmed by lead actress Zoe Saldana who portrays Neytiri, shared VR.

20th Century Fox wanted "Avatar 2" to be released by Christmas 2016, but James Cameron requested for the launch to be pushed back, reportedly due to the lack of technology that should help interpret the director's vision for the film.
