The Houston Rockets need a point guard as their gamble on Ty Lawson failed.
The team has been involved in almost every other trade rumor because of their early season implosion and the eventual firing of Kevin McHale.
It is widely believed that firing McHale was just the tip of the iceberg in a possible total overhaul for the team. One of the pressing concerns is at the position that Lawson was supposed to fill. Sporting News predicts that the solution could be Brandon Jennings.
"Underachieving Houston and dead-in-the-water Phoenix are seen as prime landing spots for Detroit's Brandon Jennings, if either team wants to take the chance on dealing for a player who will be an unrestricted free agent in July," SN said.
Jennings of the Detroit Pistons was supposed to be the starting point guard, but when he returned from injury he finds that his spot was ably filled by Reggie Jackson, a player whom the Pistons signed for the long term.
Simple logic dictates that Jennings may want to explore other opportunities, considering the number of options. While Jennings and Coach Stan Van Gundy have said all the right things about his role and wanting to stay with the team, trade speculation continued, as Fansided also weighed in.
They stress that the Houston trade would not be as simple and ideal as it's painted out to be. James Harden and Jennings may have some possible conflict.
"Seeing as Jennings has often been a creative ball handler and high volume scorer, he may need to spend more minutes with the second unit than he does with Harden at first," Fansided stated. "The two on the court together could be an issue just as Lawson never fit in, but if Jennings acknowledges that Harden is running the show instead, maybe he can fit in."
For Jennings, any adjustments he would have to make if indeed he is traded could be temporary as he will be a free agent at the end of the season. This is also seen as an impediment to the transaction.
