"The Vampire Diaries" showrunner Julie Plec has spoken up after rumors and news have circulated that the Elena Gilbert actress may be coming back on the show for a possible season 8.

In an interview with Variety, the 43-year-old Northwestern University graduate stated that she'd love to have the Bulgarian-Canadian actress back in the TV series anytime.

"On an emotional level, it's sad because she's Nina and she was Elena and we all love her and loved that character," she told the source above. "Yes, I miss her deeply and would take her back in an instant if she called and said, 'Hey, can I come back and play?'"

But as Nina Dobrev said in the news in September 2015, she's done with "The Vampire Diaries." It seemingly appeared that showrunners don't mind too as it gave them an opportunity to reboot the story as a possible season 8 approaches.

"It just feels good to be able to tell the story about two brothers who are more bonded and, as such, at odds more than ever before, and you're writing this terrific relationship piece now about these two guys, and it's just been so fun to write this year," Plec pointed out. "The writers, we're just enjoying the hell out of it.

Up to this point, it has yet to be announced whether another season will be coming for the supernatural TV series. The series, along with "The Original's," will debut on a Friday time slot this week prompting rumors it might get cancelled soon.

"The move to Friday night is not a move to exile [the shows]," The CW president Mark Pedowitz explained as cited by Entertainment Weekly. "It's a move to strengthen Friday night."

"They triple their numbers, live +7, consistently so there's a lot of delayed viewing on the show," he was also quoted in saying. "So if it continues and we see the performance that we've been seeing, hopefully it gets a renewal."

Chatting with People's Choice earlier this month, Kat Graham revealed in the news that it's alright if "The Vampire Diairies" won't have a season 8 following Nina Dobrev's exit.

"I think that it could be the right time, yes," Graham stated about possibly ending the series this season. "I think that it's important to go out when the show is strong and I think it's important to see characters storylines' through. And you know what? If it was the last season, I would still be thrilled because seven years on a show is a beautiful journey."
