"Narcos" showrunner Eric Newman recently teased about Pablo Escobar's inevitable fate in "Narcos" season 2. The producer lamented that Escobar's impending death will be the focus of the second season.

In a report with Slash Film, the Netflix crime-drama tells of the rise and fall of famed Colombian drug kingpin Pablo Escobar. In line with this, Newman said that even though he wanted to keep Escobar alive, he said that he "had to die."

"Trust me, if we could find a way to keep him alive and keep Wagner on the show..." Newman said.

The role of Escobar is being played by Brazilian actor Wagner Moura. While there have been speculations that a third season was going to be a possibility, Newman confirmed that "Narcos" season 2 was going to be a countdown to the end of the drug kingpin's life.

"He will die. The design of the show is we told 15 years of history in season one," added Newman. "At the point of Escobar's escape which is the summer of 1992, Escobar has 18 months to live. That's not something we can change. To stretch that out beyond another season would be disingenuous of us. That story was always designed to have an ending."

However, Escobar's death does not mean the end of the show, Newman stated. The producer teased that there were many things that could happen following Escobar's death. Adding that there were more stories out there to explore that go beyond Escobar.

While he admitted that he and his team have not planned out on how things will happen as of now, he said that he did want the best version of "Narcos" season 2.

"I would say that season two is more character driven. " Newman said of the upcoming season.

Vine Report also added that "Narcos" season 2 is currently in production.
