The year 2016 will surely see the booming of the virtual reality market with a lot of products to make waves in the new industry, one of which is the much- anticipated Sony PlayStation VR.

Recently, the price of Sony PlayStation VR has leaked online and revealed that the upcoming gaming equipment will not necessarily be too expensive, even a bit cheaper that the Oculus Rift.

U.K.'s Daily Star, in its report, said that a Swiss website confirmed that the PlayStation VR's headset will be out in June 2016. The site also posted a price of 498 Swiss francs, equivalent 347 euros and is 100 euros cheaper than the official price of the Oculus Rift.

In U.S. dollars, accordingly, the price posted in the Swiss website would be equivalent to approximately $500, which again makes it more affordable than its competitor, Oculus Rift, with an official price in U.S. dollars of $600.

Gizmag, however, in its review said that while Sony PlayStation VR will certainly have a head-start in cost and base station adoption, the overall experience based on hands-on is not quite on par with the leading Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.

The review said that if one will lump PlayStation VR together with Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, it may probably come in last. The reasons being: first, the PlayStation VR is connected to a significantly less powerful machine, which is the "low-end PS4," in comparison to a high-end gaming PC with at least a GTX 970 GPU for the Oculus Rift. Second is because Sony's display has a lower resolution with only 960 x 1,080 per eye compared to Rift and Vive's 1,080 x 1,200 per eye.

On the experience level, Gizmag said that during its CES Demo of "The London Heist," PlayStation VR, although had a good experience, trailed noticeably against Oculus Rift.

The report said that playing in PlayStation VR is a lot like playing a game on an Oculus Rift DK2, which according to Gizmag, is already "obsolete." There was a significant performance gap between PlayStation VR and Oculus Rift, the report concluded.
