''The Danish Girl'' was screened in the main competition section of the 72nd Venice International Film Festival. It starred Eddie Redmayne, Alicia Vikander, Matthias Schoenaerts (as Hans Axgil), Ben Whishaw (as Henrik), Sebastian Koch and Amber Heard. Qatar even banned the screening of the film. The media was full of reports about how Redmayne's role as a transgender helped the LGBT community.
The film was released on Jan. 1, 2016 in the UK and it was released for a limited release on Nov. 27, 2015 in the US. Directed by Tom Hooper ''The Danish Girl'' has made $34.5 million in the box office till date.
This British biographical drama film was shown in the special presentations section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival. The plot revolves around the lives of Danish painters Lili Elbe (played by Eddie Redmayne) and Gerda Wegener (Played by Alicia Vikander).
''Universal Pictures International'' has the distribution rights in the UK and ''Focus Features'' in the US.
Eddie Redmayne was nominated for the ''Best Lead Actor'' award for 5th AACTA International Awards and African-American Film Critics Association for his performance in ''The Danish Girl.'' This film won many awards and the entire cast was nominated for many too. Some of the awards are pending too.
