Now that "Pacific Rim 2" has been green-lit, fans can now look forward to more mecha action from director Guillermo Del Toro. Also, "Sons of Anarchy" star Charlie Hunnam is ready to reprise his role as Raleigh Becket.

The original film ''Pacific Rim'' was released in 2013. Fans have been waiting for its sequel, ''Maelstorm'' for a long time. Guillermo del Toro directed the original movie and told Cinemablend that he wants to keep the original cast intact. However, he did not reveal much information about the sequel yet.

As per Wikia, "Pacific Rim 2" was originally scheduled for an Apr. 2017 release. The sequel was announced in 2014. However, there were some financial troubles and Universal Pictures, the distributors of the sequel, took a gamble and decided to green-light the sequel.

Charlie Hunnam, who played the main lead as Raleigh Becket, said that there are some issues in the making of the film. However, he loves the original ''Pacific Rim'' and they are hoping they can do more in ''Pacific Rim 2.''

''I think world creation and monster creation and all of that stuff are exciting as a secondary element of storytelling.'' While talking to Cinemablend Hunnam talked in details about the plans for the sequel.

''When it becomes more important than storytelling, I get very nervous, and you sort of lose me a little bit. Although we tried very hard on Pacific Rim to marry those two elements, I do feel like ultimately it got weighed heavier on the side of spectacle than storytelling.''

There have been reports earlier that the filming should begin in Nov. 2016. However, the makers still seem to be struggling with some financial woes. Hence, Guillermo del Toro said in his social media account not to believe those rumors per Hollywood reporter.

"Don't believe everything you read. It's still going and I'll remain w it in one way or another!" del Toro tweeted.

Polygon talked about the studio acquisition of Legendary Entertainment which might make the sequel possible.
