Sam Smith shocked, worried, and then amazed everyone with his rapid weight loss last year. Now 50 pounds lighter, the soulful singer dished on how he maintained his fit body.

He started his weight loss journey back in March 2015, and is now fitter and healthier than ever, even with some fans criticizing him for being too thin. OK magazine also reported that his fans are now divided over whether to praise him or worry about him. But it seems Smith is happy overall about his achievement.

Examiner reported that the singer firmly believes that being healthy made him happier. He credited a low carb Paleo-style diet and his regular gym workouts for keeping the weight gain at bay. The initial weight loss from that diet made him more serious about exercising and losing more weight.

Because he has been crediting the diet principles presented in the book "Eat Nourish Glow" by Amelia Freer so much for his weight loss journey, he also found himself having to explain that he is not paid to do so. The book advocates a gluten-free Paleo style diet that is composed heavily of high-quality proteins and vegetables. On the other hand, those in this diet are called to avoid dairy, alcohol, processed foods, sugar and grains.

The diet did not work for Smith only. Both Jessica Alba and Tim McGraw swore by the diet. Alba lost a total of 40 pounds with the diet, combining it with cross fit.

A recent study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition provides support as well. According to the study, the Paleo diet not only leads to reduced fats and weight loss, but also to lower risks of cancer and heart disease.
