U2 is currently working on their new album, which is scheduled to get released some time in 2016. The band's guitar tech Dallas Schoo has claimed that the new album will be "more rock and serious."

In an interview with KMMS man Chris Griffin, Schoo said that the new U2 album will be more serious as compared to the 2014 released "Songs of Innocence."

"[The Edge] and Bono are writing and they're trying on another young producer who's really on his game," Schoo said, reported Diffuser. "This stuff is more rock and serious, if I may, than the ... Songs of Innocence album."

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, U2 frontman Bono confirmed that the band has already completed 18 tracks and that the band members are in the process of selecting around a dozen for the final record.

"We're well into it," Bono said. "Edge just came up with a cracker the other day! It's provisionally titled 'Tightrope.'"

"It's very epic. It's very up. And, you know, that's probably what the experience has taught us: to be fully in the moment and that fun is respected, and joy is not to be let go of."

U2 hasn't announced an official release date for the new upcoming album yet. However, a Gig Wise report claimed that the band is planning to release their new album in iTunes in the same manner as they had released "Songs of Innocence."

"We haven't figured it out yet, but our intention would be to get it out sometime in the back end of next year," The Edge told The Belfast Telegraph. "I would not rule out doing something similar to the next record."

While the U2 new album is currently in development, it is speculated that the band will release it sometime later in 2016.
