Lenny Kravitz is reportedly going to be Katy Perry's special guest at her Super Bowl halftime show, according to the announcement the "Roar" singer made during the halftime period of the New England Patriots vs. Baltimore Ravens game on Saturday. Perry mentioned that performing beside the 50-year-old music icon would make her even more "cool."

Although it may sound like it was a personal decision for Perry to choose the famous guitarist to be part of her show, the announcement actually seems to be a sign that there is a forthcoming shift when it comes to NFL's Super Bowl entertainment.

Super Bowl halftime show have somewhat cycled through almost every old rock band or pop icon that can support a show with name recognition alone. However, it would appear that the league is now looking towards younger stars and putting them alongside much older music icons that could potentially draw in additional demographics.

As a perfect example of this notion, famous singer Bruno Mars made the headlines last year when he performed in New York for the Super Bowl. However, he was not alone as he shared the stage and the spotlight with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, even if they clearly had not bothered to plug in their guitars.

To date, however, it remains unclear as whether or not Lenny Kravitz will be playing his instrument at the University of Phoenix Stadium on February 1st. If ever the "Save Tonight" does get to strum his guitar, surely, an additional demographic will be tuning in on the show.

Still, many have commented that they would much rather watch one act only, especially as the world has been a witness to how some past collaborations have spectacularly failed. Plus, many believe that if the NFL was not confident that Katy Perry could not carry her own show and attract millions of viewers, then the league should not have picked her in the first place.
