Garlic is a common ingredient in every day cooking. Recent studies have proven that garlic possesses many health benefits as shown in recent studies. The medicinal properties of garlic have a rich history published in studies to promote its use for health purposes.

Some studies grounded their work on the fact that garlic has a very high nutritional content. In fact, studies show that garlic contains enzymes, Vitamin B complex, flavonoids and minerals that are good sources of antioxidants. Antioxidants in garlic have many benefits to health as it protects the body from the damage incurred from free radicals.

Garlic is also applauded for its good benefit for the brain. Animal studies have proven that after garlic consumption, brain function was improved. Antioxidants it contains fight off free radicals leading to a good brain function. Alzheimer's disease is caused by free radical accumulation hence consuming garlic may be an effective cure for this condition.

Other studies support that garlic is a potent anti-cancer component. In a study conducted last 1960s, garlic has a positive effect for patients with cancer. Garlic was given intramuscularly and intravenously to 35 patients with advanced cancer. After three to seven days, 26 reported positive results.

In the United States last 1990s, one study from the Iowa Women's Health Study showed the effects of garlic in patients with cancer. They studied 41, 387 women ages 55 to 69 years old. Their diet and colon cancer incidence were monitored. Garlic was found out to have a potent effect on the colon cancer risk of patients.  The intake of garlic, a piece of garlic can reduce colon cancer risk by 35%.

Other health benefits of garlic entail is effects on Diabetes, immune system, blood clotting and even skin problems. There are many health benefits of garlic and this is being studied by many branches of medicine as herbal medicine is gaining a place in the world today.
