Sulfates are responsible for the suds and foam that we love to lather up while shampooing our hair. They are also found in any cleaning agent that produces suds, such as detergents and dishwashing liquid. As much as we love to create bubbles while shampooing our hair, sulfates in shampoo- ammonium lauryl sulfate or ammonium laureth sulfate (ALS) and sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) have been found to strip off the natural oil and moisture in the hair.

Sulfate has also been found to cause eczema flare-ups, dry scalp and skin, and frizzy hair. Thankfully, sulfate-free shampoo options are now available in the market. Sulfate-free shampoos include the following:
