If you go to the gym, you usually have a better idea of the types of people who exercise. But if you happen to go to Turnbridge Wells in the UK, you'll find an opposite trend.

In one of its newest researchers, it's been discovered that most of those who visit the gym frequently every month are not the young adults but rather those who are already in their seventies with an average age between 70 and 74.

This is surprising since usually studies suggest that gyms are visited often by men and women who are below 65 years old.

According to Kent Online, this trend only suggests that there's definitely a need for support to seniors so they can take care of their health better and encourage them to be active.

For this reason, the Tunbridge Wells Hospital and Gym created a self-funding program called the Recovery Plus. This hopes to provide the necessary treatment, professional support, and care for those who have gone through surgical procedures such as hip and knee replacement, very common operations among older people.

Professionals such as doctors and specialists will create a more personalized and effective plan covering not only exercises but also nutrition and therapy that will help them recover faster. This way, they can immediately go back to a more active lifestyle or at least cope better with their daily activities after they have gone through the surgery or despite an injury or illness.

Injuries especially to the joints and bones, as well as diseases like arthritis, can significantly limit the range of motion and thus the fitness ability of the patient. This only makes the person at risk of developing obesity and other metabolic syndromes, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. They are also more likely to lose their self-esteem and lack motivation to keep themselves active.
