Researchers have been working out the most possible explanations and the most viable solutions to the malady of decreasing brain power. In fact, these experts have come a long way. Here are 5 lifestyle changes that have been found to immensely benefit your brain power.

Sleep More

Lack of sleep is a serial killer for brain cells. Several studies have already linked lack of sleep not only to productivity issues but also to decrease in brain tissue volume. Developing a healthy sleep-wake pattern where you get enough rest at night will not only keep your brain powered up. It will also keep Alzheimer's at bay according to studies.

Eat Healthy

In Australia, a group of researchers gave loads of sugar-rich foods and salty foods (to mimic the human intake of fast food and junk food) to lab mice. The researchers reported that these mice exhibited a decrease in poor spatial memory retention causing them to find their way out when released in a maze.

Quit the Alcohol

Drinking too much alcohol is detrimental to your brain. Researchers from Spain have reported that heavy drinking hastens the decline of one's memory. Sporadic drinking, on the other hand, has been found to cause several long term brain issues.

Stop Multitasking

Researchers from the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden suggests that switching through tasks will not give the brain the "down time" it requires to process information required to navigate through your tasks. Focusing on one task at a time, then, will allow you to become more efficient and productive than when you juggle several activities all at once.

Learn a New Skill

Dr. Denise Park, a neuroscientist along with her team of researchers at the University of Texas subjected 200 seniors to a 3-month, 15-hours a week course to learn either digital photography, quilting or some other choice of activity.

After the trial period, the team discovered that maintaining such level of brain activity in seniors ward off dementia as significant brain gains were exhibited by the participants.

Keep your brain sharp. Wonder where to start? Pick any of these five and worry about depleting brain powers no more.
