Ian Somerhalder is said to be relieved that Nina Dobrev has left "The Vampire Diaries."

Celeb Dirty Laundry reported that Ian Somerhalder has confessed relief that ex-girlfriend Nina Dobrev has quit from "The Vampire Diaries." According to the publication, the tension on set might have started when the two broke up.

However, things may have taken a turn for the worse when Ian Somerhalder married Nikki Reed after a quick engagement. It seems that the 36-year-old actor is more enjoying the show's spotlight without Dobrev.

"I personally think everyone thought it was going to be a huge departure after Elena (Nina Dobrev) was gone," Ian Somerhalder told Variety. "And I was one of those people."

Somerhalder also revealed that they have just started shooting "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 episode 10. "The episode was really about Damon, but that's not why I think it was the best at all," he admitted.

"The way the story was put together ... every artisan from set to producers to wardrobe to everyone was just so on-point... It was a Civil War episode. I was covered in dirt and gunpowder with things blowing up around me."

CDL added that although the actor praised the team and cast's work, it was clear that he likes all the attention and focus on his character. Furthermore, Nikki Reed is reportedly pushing him to a movie career.

In another report by CDL, Nina Dobrev is greatly missed by "The Vampire Diaries" cast. Moreover, Ian Somerhalder's "diva behavior" is said to be causing friction on set.

According to Yibada, Paul Wesley commented that the show will survive as long as there is unity in the cast. ""They (Damon and Stefan) should be teaming up and fighting the negative outside forces," he said.

"There's no room for them to be at odds with each other. There's just no room for either one of them to be a villain."
