There is no denying that getting cancer is one of the greatest fears of Americans at present. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, cancer is the second leading cause of death following heart disease so the feeling towards the ailment is not completely unfounded. Thankfully, there have been many efforts to find a cure for this almost fatal sickness . More recently, the U.S. government itself, through Vice President Biden, has announced their initiatives to hasten the search for the end of the cancer threat.

In the recently concluded World Economic Forum, Vice President Biden spoke about the recent enacted bill which increased government spending on cancer research by a whopping $2 billion. During President Obama's State of the union address, he personally tasked Biden with overseeing developments in looking for a cure for cancer. Biden has since explained that his main objective is to eliminate bureaucratic hurdles for scientists that are trying to give way to a solution.

"I know I can be nothing more than a catalyst here. I'm a repository of little to no expertise in this area but I have been at least in the confines of my country relatively good at convening people" quipped Vice President Biden.

The vice president however was quick to explain that while he is optimistic about the plans of the initiative, he is very much aware that developing a cure of all types of cancer would take more than a little bit of time.

"I'm not naive enough to think or suggest we are going to have a cure for every cancer in the world in the near term" said Biden.

It has only been a few months since Biden was put in charge of the initiative. However the government official has been adamant in pushing for reforms regarding cancer research especially after his own 46 year old son succumbed to the brain cancer just last year
