George R.R. Martin's "Winds of Winter" release date will reportedly be in 2017.

According to a 2014 report by Washington Post, the "Song of Ice and Fire" author has unjustifiably earned the reputation of being a slow writer.

The publication noted that, although there have been huge gaps between the release of each book in the series as compared to J.K. Rowling ("Harry Potter") and Stephanie Meyer ("Twilight"), Martin's books have always had a huge word count.

In a chart collated by WP from Amazon and Wikipedia, George R.R. Martin's "Winds of Winter" release date could still be in 2017. Moreover, on a page-by-page basis, it seems like he is working as quickly as J.K. Rowling if they were writing the same amount of words.

"I am aware of the TV series moving along behind me like a giant locomotive," he said in an HBO interview, "and I know I need to lay the track more quickly, perhaps, because the locomotive is soon going to be bearing down on me."

The chart also revealed that fans could expect "A Dream of Spring" to have a 2023 release date, which is just in time for George R.R. Martin's 75th birthday.

iDesigntTimes commented that "A Game of Thrones" has more pages compared to "The Chronicles of Narnia" by C.S. Lewis and Rowling's seven-book "Harry Potter" series, which took her nine years to finish.

Earlier this year, Martin personally revealed to fans on his Live Journal that "Winds of Winter" is not yet finished. "You're disappointed, and you're not alone," he wrote.

"My editors and publishers are disappointed, HBO is disappointed, my agents and foreign publishers and translators are disappointed... but no one could possibly be more disappointed than me."

"For months now I have wanted nothing so much as to be able to say, 'I have completed and delivered THE WINDS OF WINTER' on or before the last day of 2015. But the book's not done."
