‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ Cast Member Elizabeth Banks Confirmed To Play Rita Repulsa

Lionsgate has finally decided to give a "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" cast update, as to who would play the villain of the much-awaited movie reboot.

The studio has tapped Elizabeth Banks to play alliterative villain Rita Repulsa in the upcoming Power Rangers film, reported Gospel Herald.

The official Power Rangers Twitter account confirmed Banks' inclusion in the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" cast.

"How evil @ElizabethBanks joins the #PowerRangersMovie cast as the villainous, #RitaRepulsa pic.twitter.com/BJQV1KAwYv," the movie's official Twitter account read, reported Variety.

Banks also tweeted about it writing "After 10,000 years, I'm free! It's time to conquer Earth!! Time to play #RitaRepulsa #PowerRangersMovie."

Banks joins an already selected "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" star cast that includes actress Naomi Scott portraying the role of Pink Ranger named Kimberly Hart, Australian actor Dacre Montgomery playing the role of  Red Ranger named Jason Lee Scott, "Me and Earl and the Dying Girl" fame RJ Cyler playing Blue Ranger named Billy Cranston, Chinese actor Ludi Lin playing Black Ranger named Zachary (Zack) Taylor and Becky Gomez, also known as YouTube star Becky G, playing the Yellow Ranger, Trini Kwan.

The "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" reboot will be directed by Dean Israelite and produced by Brian Casentini, Wyck Godfrey, Haim Saban and Allison Shearmur. Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller are working as the scriptwriters.

It was recently announced that the release date of the upcoming "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" reboot has been shifted to March 24, 2017. The movie was originally scheduled for a January 2017 release after being pushed back from the original July 2017 slot, reported Business Standard.

"Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" is an upcoming remake of the popular children's television series that ran from 1993 to 1995.

This will be the third time that the Power Rangers franchise will make it to the big screen following "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie" in 1995 and "Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie" in 1997.
