Does Selena Gomez have cancer? There have been speculations concerning the pop superstar's health when she revealed that she has undergone chemotherapy in the past.

According to Mirror, Selena Gomez revealed that she had indeed undergone chemotherapy treatment in 2013 and that it was the reason why she had to cancel her Australian and Asian tours during that time.

Her sudden absence created rumors that she went into rehab for addiction, but Selena Gomez chose to remain quiet about her ordeal. On the other hand, some fans were wondering if it was cancer that the Gomez is battling.

October of 2015, Selena Gomez finally broke her silence regarding the drug addiction rumors saying that it was not an addiction problem but rather a health problem.

"I wanted so badly to say, 'You guys have no idea. I'm in chemotherapy. You're assholes,'" Gomez said, according to ET Online. "But I was angry I even felt the need to say that. It's awful walking into a restaurant and having the whole room look at you, knowing what they're saying. I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again."

So is it cancer? Gomez also cleared out that it was an entirely different disease, but that it also makes use of chemotherapy as treatment.

"I was diagnosed with lupus, and I've been through chemotherapy. That's what my break was really about. I could've had a stroke," Gomez told Billboard Magazine.

Lupus is an autoimmune disease wherein a person's body attacks its own cells as if it were a harmful disease, according to Live Science. People who are highly susceptible are women between the ages of 15 to 44. Lupus can be a life-threatening condition, although if properly attended to, a patient can still live a long and normal life.

Aside from Selena Gomez, "Unbreak My Heart" singer Toni Braxton also suffered from Lupus. This was revealed in her latest biopic movie also named after her popular single.
