"The Raid 3" is the next highly-anticipated installment of "The Raid" series. Its predecessors, "The Raid: Redemption" and "The Raid 2," were both written and directed by Gareth Evans.

Iko Uwais portrayed Rama, the protagonist of the film, and his adventure as a SWAT officer in Indonesia. The film is also known for its focus on "Pencak Silat" which is Indonesia's brutal fighting style.

Last Jan. 21, Gareth Evans tweeted, "Time to find a brand new collection of streets & buildings outside of Indonesia to fuck up with cars and mayhem. #blister #locationhunting," and a fan asked whether Evans' post was about the highly-anticipated "The Raid 3."

"The Raid 3 isn't going to be happening anytime soon. Ideas in my head. Nothing written. No set date. 2018/19 possibly," Gareth replied.

According to Screenrant.com, the director hinted that the upcoming sequel will take place two hours before "The Raid 2" ended. The third chapter will reportedly both be a sequel and an interquel, a story that occurs between the prequel and sequel.

Although Gareth Evans already has the concept in mind, he does not seem to be in any hurry to write the story for "The Raid 3" with his gangster film "Blister" in the works. Furthermore, "The Raid 2" did not succeed as much as "The Raid: Redemption" during its release which might be one of the causes for the delay.

Another cause might be the busy schedules of the main crew. Gareth Evans has his own project and Iko Uwais will be teaming up with UFC fighter Ronda Rousey for the upcoming action flick "Mile 22." Uwais is also collaborating with Evans for "Blister" and is a fight choreographer and actor for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

"The film explores the relationship between a CIA field officer and an Indonesian police officer forced to work together as they confront violent and extreme political corruption," director Peter Berg said about "Mile 22." He added that he wanted to produce the same type of action that was depicted in Gareth Evans' movies.
