Ben Mendelsohn may play a lead role in the upcoming "Star Wars: Rogue One" film alongside Felicity Jones, who has been confirmed for an undisclosed role.

Deadline reported that the Aussie actor has been eyed for a role in the "Star Wars" spin-off which will be directed by Gareth Edwards. Mendelsohn is best known for his roles in films such as "The Dark Knight Rises," "Killing Them Softly" and original Netflix series "Bloodline."

Mendelsohn, however, played coy as Entertainment Weekly reached out to him to confirm his involvement in "Rogue One." The actor made sure that he steered clear of officially commenting on his status for the film.

"I'm absolutely not sure about any of this at all. It sounds great, and certainly-Wouldn't that be nice? I'm the kid who had the whole set of trading cards... It's fair to say that as a kid I would have been very happy to be Han Solo, and I would have been happy to have gone out with Princess Leia," Mendelsohn admitted.

"It's hard to overstate what a big deal that initial trilogy was for me, so certainly any talk of anything, I'd be thrilled if they were thinking about stuff like that."

If the actor does get a role in "Star Wars: Rogue One," he will be working with Felicity Jones from "The Theory of Everything." Moreover, there have been some speculations that Jones might portray the young princess Leia in the film.

Another star might be heading into "Rogue One" as TheForce.net reported that Zayn Malik may be leaving One Direction in order to pursue a role in the upcoming "Star Wars" franchise.

"There have also been numerous Zayn Malik sightings in the Skywalker Ranch area of California where he's been making the final steps to seal the deal with Lucasfilm and Disney," TheForce.net wrote in light of the April Fool's Day spirit.
