Oil pulling results with coconut oil is the new fad in dental hygiene. It could be thought of as alternate, natural tooth care that is as effective as going to the dentist because it heals cavities.

Oil pulling is done by swishing oil in your mouth so that toxins are minimized and harmful bacteria are reduced. It may be compared to a very effective "mouthwash."

Oil pulling results with coconut oil can be obtained by swishing a tablespoon of extra vergin cocunut oil in the mouth for a short time each day. This action helps improve oral health and heals sensitivity in teeth.

"Just as with oil cleansing for the skin, the principle of 'like dissolves like' applies, as oil is able to cut through plaque and remove toxins without disturbing the teeth or gums." said Wellnessmamma.com.

Exploring alternate tooth care becomes an option for many people when they realize they don't want the extraneous chemicals in their "natural" toothpaste such as sweeteners, fluoride, and glycerin. While oil pulling is a new health fad, it is rooted in Indian natural therapy called Ayurveda, dating back thousands of years. One of the key benefits of oil pulling is that it emphasizes "what we eat has so much more of an affect on our teeth than the substance we scrub them with," said Trinaholden.com.

According to Ramiel Nagel, "lots of whole foods, good fat, raw milk, tasty meats and properly prepared grains and veggies. Ramiel especially stresses whole, raw milk in the diet and plenty of deeply nourishing fats like butter oil and cod liver oil."

Sesame oil may be substituted for extra-virgin coconut oil.

However, beware of some negative side effects like mout dryness, excessive thirst, facial muscle stiffness, and loss of sensation, if the proper technique for oil pulling is not observed: .

Keep in mind that poor oral hygiene reflects poor health. Some of the common health issues associated with dental problems include cardiovascular issues such as heart attack/stroke, elevated blood sugar in diabetics, sinus problems such as sinus infection, lower birth-weight babies in pregnant women and ear infections.
