Aromatherapy is an alternative remedy for certain conditions. It is a branch of herbal medicine that utilizes the therapeutic properties of essential oils which are extracted from various plants. Its purpose is to improve the overall health and boost the mood of individuals through these oils.

Furthermore, it aims to promote relaxation and improvement of one's cognitive, psychological and physical well-being. These essential oils and other aromatherapy compounds are blended and mixed to be used through various mode of application such as topical application, massage, and inhalation and even through water immersion.

Considered a unique branch of alternative medicine, aromatherapy has gained momentum and popularity in the world today. This is because of the fruitful evidence pertaining to its efficacy in keeping up with its purpose. Basically, aromatherapy is a means to have harmony of the body and mind. It is used as a form of relaxation and at the same time, provides relief from pain and discomfort.

The body is relieved and the mind is relaxed which leads to a harmonious means of living. Health and well-being does not only pertain to the physical body but also to the other factors that lead to holistic health. These include the emotional, psychological, mental and cognitive aspect of a person.

The oils used in aromatherapy are essential oils which are extracted from plant parts such as flowers, leaves, barks, stem, leaves and roots. These oils are inhaled or applied to the skin. When inhaled, it is believed to enhance the function of the brain and when applied to the skin, it is absorbed into the bloodstream for a systemic effect.

Aromatherapy is widely used nowadays as an alternative remedy for ailments and relaxation. It uses essential oils to achieve the desired effect. It is known to improve the overall health and well-being of individuals as it aims to boost the mood.
