Packing healthy lunches for kids has become a very important topic as of late.

However, one mom had to learn the hard way that what she packs in her child’s lunch, healthy or not, will be a part of everyone’s business.

Leeza Pearson, a mom in Aurora, Colorado, had put in a sandwich, a bit of string cheese, and a small package of Oreos in her four-year-old daughter Natalee’s lunch box last week, according to Yahoo News. When Natalee returned home, the mom reportedly discovered the Oreos in tact with a note from the little girl’s school regarding the lunch.

“Dear parents, it is very important that all students have a nutritious lunch. This is a public school setting and all children are required to have a fruit, a vegetable and a healthy snack from home, along with a milk,” read the note.

“If they have potatoes, the child will also need bread to go along with it. Lunchables, chips, fruit snacks, and peanut butter are not considered to be a healthy snack. This is a very important part of our program and we need everyone’s participation.”

The note in Natalee’s lunchbox is reportedly not a part of standard practice, despite the recent emphasis on healthy eating, according to Patty Moon, a spokeswoman for the Aurora Public Schools, which provides funding for some of the children to attend the private pre-school.

“What the school thinks is healthy for her is not what I think is healthy for her,” Pearson told local station KUSA.

“That’s between me and her and our doctor — not the school.”
