Internet Hoax Said Taylor Swift Dead, 'R.I.P. Taylor Swift' Facebook Page Gets 1M Likes

Is Taylor Swift dead? Reports have emerged about America's favorite country singer Taylor Swift dying in a car crash. However, confirmed that Taylor Swift is the latest celebrity to succumb to an Internet death hoax.

Mediamass claimed that there is no need for Taylor Swift fans to be concerned since the "You Belong With Me" singer-songwriter is doing well. 

The report assured fans who thought Taylor Swift is dead that a "May 2015 report has now been confirmed as a complete hoax and just the latest in a string of fake celebrity death reports."

One similar incident happened recently with Miley Cyrus, who created the controversial video "Wrecking Ball."

"Rumors of the singer's alleged demise gained traction on Tuesday after a 'R.I.P. Taylor Swift' Facebook page attracted nearly one million of 'likes'. Those who read the 'About' page were given a believable account of the American singer's passing," Mediamass said. 

The Facebook announcement that Taylor Swift is dead read, "At about 11 a.m. ET on Tuesday (May 12, 2015), our beloved singer Taylor Swift passed away. Taylor Swift was born on December 13, 1989 in Reading. She will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page."

As expected Twitter also reacted with frenzy over news saying Taylor Swift is dead.

On May 13, the "Love Story" songwriter's reps confirmed that Taylor Swift is not dead.

"She joins the long list of celebrities who have been victimized by this hoax. She's still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the Internet," they said.

Fans expressed their frustration at the fake reporting citing it was "reckless, distressing and hurtful to fans." On the other hand, a Facebook page titled "R.I.P. Taylor Swift" received nearly a million likes, a testimony to her popularlty and loyalty of her fans.
